First email: further update for Icesave customers

Most Icesave customers have had their first email, second emails have started to go out, and the first payments have been made this week as planned. The FSCS will continue to send the second emails in batches over the rest of this month.

Following our update of 11 November 2008, we are pleased to report that many more customers have now been able to access their first email, following the instructions we set out. The numbers have been rising each day, suggesting that the changes made by ISPs to facilitate the process have been effective in most cases. We believe that the number of customers who have not received a first email from us is now very small. We encourage any customers in this position to follow the instructions set out on 11 November if they have not already done so, and to try that process again, if they have previously been unsuccessful.

Next week, we will explain the steps customers will need to take if despite previous attempts, they have still not received their first email. It is still our intention to bring as many people as possible into the electronic process.

We remain on track to offer compensation to the vast majority of customers in November. An update on the first and second emails will be provided early next week.
