The conduct of the FSCS is the responsibility of its Board of Directors. Under the Financial Services & Markets Act 2000 (FSMA), the UK regulators (Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority) appoint the Directors on terms which ensure they run the Scheme independently of the UK regulators. The Chairman's appointment (and removal) is subject to Treasury approval.
FSCS is independent from the UK regulators, although accountable to it and ultimately to the Treasury.
