FSCS COO Jimmy Barber to leave the Scheme in Spring 2021

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) today announces that its Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jimmy Barber will be leaving the Scheme in April.

Jimmy was originally appointed as COO and Executive Director to the FSCS Board in January 2016. The Scheme had not previously had a COO but established the role to align the leadership of its end-to-end claims management process alongside its other core business functions, including data insights and analytics, information technology and change management.

Since joining the Scheme five years ago, Jimmy has made a significant impact on FSCS and the way it operates. He has led on its digital transformation, making the Scheme more efficient and agile, and helped to develop a more streamlined and empathetic customer service journey – the success of which is evident from a visible rise in customer satisfaction levels. In addition to this, Jimmy has grown the Scheme’s capability in terms of technology, people and processes and helped to drive positive cultural change.

Caroline Rainbird, FSCS's CEO, said “Jimmy’s work has delivered real, measurable results for the Scheme and his efforts – particularly on digital transformation and our investment in technology – put us in an excellent position to effectively handle the challenges that Covid-19 has thrown our way. Over his five years with the Scheme, Jimmy has made an immeasurable impact not only to the life of those working at FSCS but also to the wider regulatory family and beyond. We wish him every success in the future.”

Jimmy Barber, FSCS’s outgoing COO, said “I am so proud of what the FSCS team has achieved over the past five years. It has been a privilege to have helped drive this transformation and now that the Scheme is in a much stronger position, this feels like the right time for me to pursue a new challenge.”

Caroline Rainbird, FSCS's CEO, added “We are entering the third decade of the Scheme’s existence and the world in which we operate has never looked more different. We will build on the great work that has already been done by Jimmy and ensure that customers are aware of the protection we offer and continue to benefit from quick and efficient pay-outs.”

To ensure the continuation of FSCS’s transformational journey and a seamless leadership transition, Sarah Marin, currently the Head of Operational Support, will assume the role of Interim Chief Customer Officer with effect from 1 February 2021.  Sarah Marin and Jimmy Barber will work together to ensure that FSCS continues to deliver against its ambitious strategy, particularly the Prevent pillar.
